Nurture and Wellbeing

Cheswick Green Primary School is currently undertaking the National Nurturing Schools Programme with NurtureUK.

Some of the things happening at Cheswick Green Primary School:

  • Nurture groups run by school staff and Ordinary Magic to help children to regulate
  • Zones of Regulation used throughout the school to develop children's emotional literacy
  • Jigsaw PSHE curriculum that focuses on qualities that underpin emotional wellbeing
  • Development of nurturing spaces throughout the school such as The Nest and cosy calming areas in classrooms
  • Emotion Coaching used as a way of naming and validating children's feelings, then problem solving how to regulate

Ways you can work with us to support your child:

  • Attend parent meetings and keep us up to date with any changes that could affect their behaviour in school
  • Join us for school events such as coffee mornings and assemblies as out children feel happy and proud when their parents are in school
  • Talk with your child about their feelings

We nurture children:

  • The development of social and emotional skills is at the heart of our curriculum
  • We use positive reinforcement and nurturing opportunities to recognise and manage their emotions
  • We act on pupil voice through questionnaires, circle time and school council meetings
  • Transitions are carefully planned
  • Children feel safe and are supported to develop their emotional literacy
  • We understand the children learn and develop at different ages and stages and this is reflected in our curriculum and approaches.

We nurture parents:

  • We make visitors feel welcome in our school
  • We involve parents in a range of activities such as Booknics and Parent Shares
  • We work with parents and carers and other agencies to support the family around the child
  • We keep you regularly updated on your child's progress and development
  • We involve parents and the community in our plans
  • We help to get the right support
  • We offer a pantry in our foyer with food and household items.

We nurture staff:

  • Staff are able to access relevant and current training linked to nurture and wellbeing
  • Staff feel respected, valued and supported
