Mathematics  and Finance Education

Mathematics is essential to everyday life, critical to science, technology and engineering, and necessary in most forms of employment.

A high-quality mathematics education therefore provides a foundation for understanding the world, the ability to reason mathematically, and a sense of enjoyment and curiosity about the subject. ~ National Curriculum, 2014

The National Curriculum for mathematics aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • Become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics, including through varied and frequent practice with increasingly complex problems over time, so that pupils have conceptual understanding and are able to recall and apply their knowledge rapidly and accurately to problems
  • Reason mathematically by following a line of enquiry, conjecturing relationships and generalisations, and developing an argument, justification or proof using mathematical language
  • Can solve problems by applying their mathematics to a variety of routine and non-routine problems with increasing sophistication, including breaking down problems into a series of simpler steps and persevering in seeking solutions.

Finance Education

At Cheswick Green, we believe that all the children in our care deserve ‘the very best in all we do, all of the time’, this includes helping our pupils become life-long learners.

Financial education is a key aspect of this learning. A good understanding of how to manage their finances will affect the lives of our pupils for their whole lives. Our continuous commitment in this area of learning ensures that our pupils will leave our school with a clear understanding of money management which will stand them in good stead for their future. By embedding financial education into all areas of our curriculum, we believe our pupils build a sound understanding of financial responsibility and personal choice. We strive to involve all members of school and the wider community by providing an inclusive and diverse range of perspectives along with a varied and engaging approach.
